Assata-Nicole Richards

Board vice chair Assata-Nicole Richards is the Program Director/Resident Mentor for Project Row Houses, a non-profit arts organization established by African-American artists & community activists in Houston's Third Ward.  PRH is founded on the principle that art-and the community it creates-can be the foundation for revitalizing depressed inner-city neighborhoods.

Assata holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Pennsylvania State University and is a graduate of the University of Houston.  After serving as a faculty member at University of Pittsburgh she returned to Houston to create the Sankofa Research Institute for the development of innovative approaches to study and solve social problems.

Giving back to the community as a member of the HHA Board of Commissioners is nothing new to the Houston native she also works extensively as a volunteer in local communities and organizations.
