Houston Housing Authority Notice of Catastrophe And Suspension of Texas Public Information Act Deadlines

On July 6, 2024, in response to Hurricane Beryl, Acting Governor Dan Patrick issued a disaster declaration for 81 counties, including Harris and other counties surrounding Houston, Texas and including Houston Housing Authority’s area of operation. Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the early morning hours of Monday, July 8, 2024.  As a result of the storm, Houston Housing Authority (HHA) staff does not have access to its building due to flooding and loss of power, and staff does not have access to documents that would allow it to comply with deadlines set forth by the Texas Public Information Act.

Therefore, pursuant to Texas Government Code §552.2325, HHA submitted notice on the form required by the Office of the Attorney General to suspend, or toll, deadlines and timelines otherwise running under the Texas Public Information Act. Such deadlines are tolled until the expiration of this period or operations are allowed to continue.

The initial suspension period began on Monday, July 8, 2024 and, unless extended as authorized, will end at midnight on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
