Near Northside – Irvinton Village Choice Neighborhood
The Houston Housing Authority, in partnership with the City of Houston, was awarded a prestigious two-year Choice Neighborhood Planning grant of $500,000. Choice Neighborhood (CN) is a program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that helps improve public housing and the surrounding communities. A robust planning team will work with residents, the Irvinton Village Resident Council, schools, business owners, nonprofits and other local stakeholders to create a comprehensive Transformation Plan for Irvinton Village and the Near Northside.
The Transformation Plan will include strategies to develop new affordable housing that meets modern living standards and to promote economic development and spur additional private investment.
This process, which runs through the end of 2026, requires community participation. Input will be gathered via numerous meetings, group discussions, workshops, surveys, and more. The final Transformation Plan will be focused on the three core HUD goals: improving housing, supporting people, and strengthening the neighborhood.
